What is Buck Wild Weekend?
What do I need for Buck Wild Weekend?
I can only come for some of the weekend, is that okay?
What is the “Buck Moon” and why is a Full Moon important to the party?
For a simple answer, it’s a weekend-long party for friends and family.
For a more true answer, it’s a weekend-long celebration of the Great Lakes, the Full Moon, our families and friendship, and the great big world we live in. It’s a way for us to get together and play games and camp-out in the way our fore-ancestors would smile and recognize.
Bring yourself (and whomever was formally invited), a place/way to sleep, clothing for a Michigan summer day and night, and some food/water/BYOB. We have a number of activities (scheduled and non-) along with equipment available for those to use. This is mostly a camping weekend so having a supply of food, water, shelter (tent recommended, limited hammock locations, RV spots available), sunscreen, bathing suits/towels, and personal-fun will be useful.
The “Buck Moon” is the full moon of July where the antlers of a deer are in full growth. To the indigenous, backcountry-colonials, and early forced-settlers/slaves of this region it meant hunting and harvest season were upcoming and planting season was behind. Groups would celebrate such a rare time of warm-weather down-time with sport, celebration, and leisure of the summer heat; so why not us as well? It would only make our ancestors happy. This moon is also called the “Thunder Moon” for all the raging thunderstorms that can occur in the region; we should be lucky to witness one on the shores of Lake Huron.
Will Buck Wild Weekend still happen if there are thunderstorms in the forecast?
Totally! Even if you can only come Thursday to help setup or Sunday to stop in and say “hey” after Church, we’re always happy to see you. You were invited for a reason and we always would love to see you.
Yes. It only enhances it.
